Amazing nano facts!

There are three pages of nano facts, click the numbers to see all of them.

  • The Forth Railway Bridge in Scotland could be painted 5 times over with just 1 litre of paint, if the paint was only 1 nanometre thick!

A flea is approximately 1 million nanometres wide!

If a seagull lands on the deck of an aircraft carrier, the ship will sink by 1 nanometre!

  • If you lined up 80,000 nano particles in a row, they would be the same diameter as a single hair from your head!

A grain of sand on the beach takes about 34 million years to dissolve. A nanometre-sized grain of sand would dissolve in about 1 second!

Even if a gecko were 200 times heavier, it would still be able to walk on the ceiling - thanks to the nano hairs on its feet!

  • By 2015, the world will need 2 million people working in nanotechnology!

Your fingernails grow at about 1 nanometre a second. That's 0.6mm a week!

If a nano particle was as big as a football, then a doughnut would be the size of the UK!
